Windows 8 looks a lot like Windows Phone 7.
Microsoft has shown a brief preview of the upcoming Windows 8 and it may look familiar to Windows Phone 7 users. Windows 8, as it is known now but that may change, has the brightly colored boxes containing snippets of information and your favorite applications. The design is fun and appears to be geared toward keeping us connected to our social media. You can bet it will contain all the features Windows users have come to know and love.
The OS will run on Tablets and Desktops/Laptops. This seems like an attempt to bridge the smartphone/tablet/PC experience. Users of Windows Phone 7 will certainly recognize the similarities. The colored boxes connecting you to your applications beckon you to check your email, view videos, post tweets or check in on your stock portfolio.
Microsoft will begin requesting application developers start designing apps for the new OS. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Have no fear if you want to upgrade to Windows 8 but still run your old programs. Microsoft will make sure most of your old programs work just fine. They will also make sure that if you want to send out a tweet or update your status, you can do that too.
Microsoft's Window 8, or whatever they settle on for a name, is still under development. There is no scheduled release date. Most believe we will see it some time in 2012 but only time will tell. It will be interesting to see how Windows 8 is received. There's no middle ground with Windows, users either love it or hate it. Microsoft will be betting on the former.
You will get you chance to have your say but probably not for a year or so until it's released. Until then, we will do our best to keep you updated on any developments or previews available.
