Learning About The Virtual Way Of Having A Meeting Through Teleconference

by Dino Douglas

Boy have meetings changed for the better! It used to be that everyone had to gear up, dress up, get ready and then show up at a meeting all in the same place at the same time. It could easily burn half of your day if you include the commute.

Now, meetings are much easier to host and to attend. They're not as boring and dull, and they are also quicker. This is all thanks to something called audio conferencing.

Audio conferencing is a new technology that allows a virtual meeting to be held, with communication happening over the phone or over computer. It is sometimes also called tele seminar or teleconferencing.

Often this is very easy to set up. You just attach a special device to a telephone and you are ready to host. You can have more than five people at your meeting, without them having to be in the same place. You can have meetings anywhere, any time.

Talk about a plus! If you have access to a phone, you can be part of the meeting that is being held. You can participate fully even though you are not 'there,' you don't even have to have business clothes on!

Since so many people have to travel on business, this is very helpful. Bosses on business trips can still attend critical meetings. And employees who work from home can come 'in' for the meeting via phone, without having to actually come in.

You can use audio conferencing for both business and personal reasons. We've already talked about the benefits of business use of audio conferencing. On a personal level, people use it for fun. Imagine using audio conferencing to have virtual reunions with friends and family who live far apart. Wouldn't that be great?

The one potential barrier to a successful meeting is if you don't ensure that all participants have the right time and call in number for the conference. Ideally you want participants to be informed of the topic in advance as well. This helps keep the meeting efficient, as it allows participants to prepare ahead of time.
