Choosing the Correct Bluetooth Headset of the HTC Evo Shift

by Gareth Jale

Most consumers who purchase a smart phone like the HTC Evo Shift have a basic understanding of what Bluetooth is: a wireless technology that allows for the exchange of data over short distance. Along with products like a case and a screen protector, a Bluetooth headset is among the most popular accessories on the market. With a Bluetooth headset, you can talk conveniently on your phone without physically holding it to your ear. You can talk with convenience while driving in your car or walking the city streets.

But comfortable conversations over the air aren't the limit for Bluetooth. In fact, Bluetooth has become a much more popular choice among music listeners now that smart phones and the Bluetooth devices made for them support AD2P. Among other things, the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, a Bluetooth profile, allows music listeners to stream music from their HTC Evo Shift to Bluetooth headphones without loss of quality. And the AD2P isn't just limited to headphones either. You can purchase Bluetooth speakers for your home or car, or have one set that you take with you.

Music and voice communication aren't the only types of data transmission via Bluetooth that it supports. If your PC or MAC device has Bluetooth support, you can connect it to your smart phone the same way you can connect to your Bluetooth headset. Once connected, you can transfer data files, such as music and videos, and you can synchronize your libraries. If your computer doesn't happen to have Bluetooth support, you can easily purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle and connect it. With Bluetooth technology, you can use your phone to connect to electronic devices other than a computer. It can even connect to another smart phone and it can connect to a Bluetooth enabled TV to act as a remote.

As consumers, we like to think that Bluetooth is Bluetooth and that Bluetooth in one device works just as well as it does in another. But often, that isn't the case. In fact, prior to the recent line of these phones, HTC has had a horrible reputation when it came to Bluetooth reception. Regardless of how fantastic and numerous your Bluetooth capabilities were, it meant little if reception was poor because the connection would drop easily. With the recent release of phones, they has taken a huge lead forward but they're still not as efficient as Apple. Bluetooth reception is so strong now you should have little problem transmitting a document from your phone to the printer in your home office from anywhere else in your home.

HTC has also improved their discovery algorithms. In the past, it was common to have a Bluetooth device that was simply hard to find. Sometimes it wouldn't show up at all and you'd have to do a hard reset on the phone. Well, those days are gone. Without even being asked, your phone will automatically recognize all of the Bluetooth-enabled devices within range. Simply select the one you want from the provided list and presto; it will auto-magically connect you.
